My name is Bénédicte Barrett. I am an illustrator based in Plymouth, South West of England.
I was lucky to grow up in a farm in France, Loire Valley, where my playground was nature. I remember hosting a baby lamb in our kitchen one snowy winter and feeding her with a milk bottle! Playing outdoor was my daily routine and probably contributed to develop my environmental self-awareness. I studied and graduated in Illustration in Plymouth College of Art not long after I had my first child Benjamin. Before being an illustrator, I was a Primary school teacher specialised in bilingual education. This is one reason why I moved to England, London, to teach in a French bilingual school where I also met Peter (my fencing coach) who later became my husband! My family has grown since becoming an illustrator, giving birth to sweet twin girls later on called Charlotte and Juliette. Life is full of surprises! I like creating digital illustrations and adding patterns, textures and pencil effects. I love illustrating scenes and often, I am inspired by retro objects and garments. Apart from illustrating, I like learning about sewing and recycling old textiles. My other today's obsession is to become a zero waste family. Still a lot to be done but I am learning! |
